About the Office of Graduate Studies

Graduate Studies at Clark Atlanta University began in 1929-30; the initial offerings were in the liberal arts, the social sciences and natural sciences. Later, the University added professional programs such as business administration. Expansion of faculty and programs started at the beginning of the United States entry into World War II with the addition of the Schools of Library Science, Business Administration and Education. Clark Atlanta University is classified as a research-intensive university. The University is a pioneer in such areas as cancer research, artificial intelligence, African politics, and urban education. In the period 2003-2005, the University granted ninety Master’s degrees (excluding MBA degrees) and one hundred Ph.D. degrees. The University has a diverse student population, which is composed of national and international students.

Clark Atlanta University’s School of Arts and Sciences offers thirteen Master’s degrees, including the Master of Public Administration, five Doctor of Philosophy degrees and one Doctor of Arts degree. The School of Business Administration offers the MBA degree, and The Whitney M. Young, Jr., School of Social Work offers both the Master of Social Work degree and the Doctor of Philosophy degree. The School of Education offers Master’s degrees, Specialist degrees and a Doctorate of Education degree in educational leadership.
